I’m proud to finally present a project I’ve been working on since 2015: A diorama scene depicting the Battle of Hoth from “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back".
My ultimate goal was to present drama and emotion through percieved detail while limiting my polycount as much as possible; Putting weight and motion into each hand-posed character to mimic the feeling one might get looking at a table with wargaming miniatures.
The concept was partially inspired by the Halo 3 “Believe” ad series.
Workflow:
No external textures were used, only vertex color painting and some baking for PBR compatability and reduced file size.
Done 100% in Blender3D.
What I Learned in the Process:
Getting to extensively use vertex painting was one of the most fun aspects of this project. I also gained a lot of experience in basic character modelling, and until now, I had never used Blender's rigging system.
I gained so much more confidence in Cycles materials, and particle effects as well.

I thought this would be a cool idea and wanted to take the opportunity to create something new for the World of Warcraft universe. I thought of this idea because I wanted to take something that exists in real life and turn it into something that might live in the World of Warcraft, and I knew the Tuskarr would be a fun culture to delve into. Since they’re based on Walruses I came up with the Milk Delivery Sledge for transporting their milk across the icy places of Northrend and the Dragon Isles. I tried to make everything fit in with the Tuskarr aesthetic and had a lot of fun with it. I appreciate all the feedback I had throughout the process which allowed me to push the project further and I’m really happy with how it looks. Who lives here, people ask, maybe a hermit that tired of the noise of a city decided to left everything, or maybe an old lady, whose husband passed away decades ago and now leaves lonely in her cabin, wandering through the wood. Maybe we will never know. There is a bike, right there next to the tree, but it have not been moved in ages, and the cup over that table seems to be fairly old. The tiny blue birds have built homes around the thick leaves hanging from the house´s roof, and the woodhouse is almost empty. Is it someone even living here? Knock on the door, if you have the courage, find out more about this forest loner and their history.
