Built in the Netherlands in 1597, the Roter Lowe (Red Lion) was a versatile 18 gun scouting vessel. Bought in 1601 by the Council of Knigsberg on account of the Elector of Brandenburg. It was in service as a vedette-boat in Pillau from 1602 to 1605 under captain Peter Hintze’s command. As the Clone Wars pushed into their fourth year, the Republic began to look back at existing ships in service and determine how best they could be preserved and improved to increase survivability and compatibility with other ships in the fleet. One such ship that underwent multiple improvements was the Arquitens-class Light Cruiser.
